Microsoft Security Essentials
- NEW PROBLEMS!
April 20, 2010
After several months of satisfactory
service from MS Security Essentials, I recently noticed an extreme
slow-down
in several of my computers. It seems the CPU Usage was
running 95-100%,
and everything was slowing to a painful crawl. More
inspection found
that the "MsMpEng.exe" was causing the bottleneck. Removing
Security
Essentials fixed the problem.
Curiously, though, I have one
computer not exhibiting the problem.
All are running WinXP home or
pro, w/sp3 and at least 2gb memory. Some AMD, some Intel
processors.
Please, E-Mail:
with
your observations.
NEW
- Microsoft Security Essentials
FINALLY,
Microsoft has an anti-virus software
that
really works, and works well! Best
of all,
IT'S FREE!
Quoting
Microsoft, "...provides real-time
protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and
other
malicious software."
It does
what they advertise! I am now
using it on all of my home computers, and several others I work
with.
After using it for a couple of months on a couple of my computers, I am
quite impressed with it's performance.

AVG
Anti-Virus Free
by Grisoft
This is a very good anti-virus program that I have
used in the past.
I was very happy with it's performance. As with other "free"
programs,
it offers a limited set of features, but still a good product.
NOTE:
It is for private, non-commercial, single
home computer use only.

PC
Tools AntiVirus Free Edition
This is a free version of their paid AntiVirus
software. As
with some other "free" offers, the free version has a few less features
but still offers a good product.
